Abstract: The People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Mongolia extensively mine in and around the arid environment of the Gobi Desert. In addition, mineral extraction has occurred in similar environments of the southwestern United States. This webinar is designed to provide professionals with an overview of pre-mining environments, mineral extraction activities, and challenges of reclamation and ecological restoration in arid environments. Three highly knowledgeable individuals from the PCR, Mongolia, and Peabody Energy will discuss technical and operational aspects of extractive industries and challenges associated with ecological restoration activities in such environments.
